Fly to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, also known as the Paris of the East and meet your Tour Captain. Explore this exciting city with visits to the Yu Gardens, the Old Town and the famous Bund before rounding the day off with a dinner of sumptuous Shanghai cuisine. Next day, visit the Shanghai Museum and the Pudong area. We also have the opportunity to explore the Xintiandi quarter with its 1920’s style shikumen buildings. In the evening enjoy a stunning Huangpu River cruise.
Depart Shanghai and fly to Beijing for the next four days. Our sightseeing takes in the exquisite Summer Palace followed by an evening dinner which includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.The next day, enjoy a walk on the Great Wall and tour the unique Temple of Heaven, which is the largest existing temple in China followed by an evening performance of a Chinese Acrobatic Show.We also take a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum before exploring the Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China.
Shop at the famous markets and then board your overnight sleeper train to the former imperial capital of Xian. Upon arrival, we visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and the renowned Shaanxi Museum. A walk through the lively Muslim Quarter and visit the Great Mosque is followed by a traditional Shui Jiao dinner in the evening.The following day, explore one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century - the Terracotta Warriors and the ancient City Wall. Complete the day with a live performance of Tang Dynasty dancing.
Fly to Wuhan and transfer by coach (approx six hours) to board your Yangtze River Cruise vessel. Travel upstream and tour the impressive Three Gorges Dam before cruising on the mighty Yangtze River through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.We enjoy various shore excursions and take a side-trip along the striking Shennong Stream in a peapod boat or visit the Lesser Three Gorges.
Disembark from your cruise and visit the new Panda House at Chongqing Zoo before flying to beautiful Guilin. Take a relaxing cruise on the spectacular Li River to enjoy the stunning limestone columns that tower above the river, creating breathtaking landscapes.
Visit the stunning Reed Flute Caves and Mt Diecai before boarding your flight to Kunming. Sample the region’s famous Across the Bridge noodles in the evening. Enjoy a full day tour of the picturesque Stone Forest, where the huge limestone columns form surreal shapes and images.
Fly to Lijiang, a UNESCO world heritage site and wander through the quaint cobbled streets and along the canals of the Old Quarter and in the evening enjoy the acclaimed Naxi Ancient Music Show. Tomorrow we visit Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world and enjoy the truly breathtaking scenery.
A cable car takes us to one of the high meadows on spectacular Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which soars to 18,000 feet. Also visit Black Dragon Pool before flying back to Kunming.
Morning at leisure before boarding our flight back to the UK, arriving home the next day filled with happy memories.
