Fly to Beijing where our Tour Captain will meet us. Sample the local delicacy, Peking Duck as part of our welcome dinner tonight.
Over the next three days, stroll thr ough Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. Also walk on the Great Wall, visit the unique Temple of Heaven, shop at the bustling markets, tour the exquisite Summer Palace and enjoy a Chinese Acrobatic Show. On our last day in Beijing, we enjoy a walk along Liulichang’s ancient shop fronts and calligraphy market before our overnight sleeper train to Xian.
Arrive in Xian in the morning. Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda followed by the renowned Shaanxi Museum, home to thousands of priceless relics, before walking through the lively Muslim Quarter and its fascinating Islamic food markets to visit the Great Mosque. Enjoy the local delicacy of Shui Jiao dumplings tonight. Tomorrow, visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century – the Terracotta Warriors, as well as one of the few remaining ancient City Walls, before ending the day with a performance of traditional Tang Dynasty dancing.
Fly to Wuhan and transfer by coach (approx six hours) to board your Yangtze River Cruise vessel for the next four nights. Enjoy a tour of the Three Gorges Dam, before sailing upstream to see some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.We take a side-trip to the striking Shennong Stream in a pea-pod boat or visit the Lesser Three Gorges and enjoy various shore excursions along the way.
Disembark from your cruise vessel this morning to visit the new Panda House at Chongqing Zoo before flying on to Kunming where we sample the famous 'Across the Bridge Noodles'. The following morning, travel to the Stone Forest for a full day tour of the stunning limestone columns.
Drive to the enchanting town of Dali. The next day relax and enjoy a cruise on Erhai Lake, participate in a traditional tea tasting, visit the picturesque Three Pagodas and explore Dali’s Ancient Quarter. The following morning visit Xizhou Village to explore the bustling local market and the Yen Family House, an ancient courtyard home, before returning to Kunming.
Visit the Bird and Flower Market before our afternoon flight to beautiful Guilin.
Cruise the Li River and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of tranquil fishing scenes and picturesque villages whilst travelling to the town of Yangshuo set in the lush green rice paddies of Southern China. Next day, visit the colourful local markets and walk through this charming town and then return to Guilin to visit Mt Diecai for views of the surrounding Karst landscape.The following morning visit the dramatic Reed Flute Caves before your flight to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.
Experience Shanghai, the 'Paris of the East' and enjoy visits to the majestic Yu Gardens, Old Town, the Shanghai Museum and the famous Bund. Enjoy delicious Shanghai cuisine tonight. The next day, travel to the city of Suzhou, famous for its exquisite gardens and silk production. A visit to a local silk mill is followed by a cruise on the ancient Grand Canal and a visit to some of the finest Oriental gardens in China. Stay overnight in Suzhou.
Travel by coach to beautiful Hangzhou. Here we visit the local markets and experience an Oriental tea tasting. The following day we visit the Temple of Inspired Seclusion and the Six Harmonies Pagoda before relaxing on a tranquil West Lake cruise.
Return to Shanghai and in the afternoon we explore the Xintiandi area with its unique 1920’s style shikumen buildings. In the evening enjoy a Huangpu River cruise as our farewell celebration.
Fly back to the UK, arriving home later the same day filled with many happy memories.
