Fly to Beijing for four unforgettable nights. The next day, stroll through Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure filled Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck. Enjoy a walk on the Great Wall, a highlight of any trip to China and tour the unique Temple of Heaven the following day. End your stay in Beijing with a shopping spree at the bustling markets and a visit to the exquisite Summer Palace. Your final evening in Beijing will be spent enjoying a Chinese Acrobatic Show.
Fly to the ancient city of Xian and see the priceless relics of the Shaanxi Provincial Museum before enjoying a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal in the evening.
Visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century – the life-size Terracotta Warriors, followed by the ancient City Wall, one of the best preserved in all of China. Stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter to visit the Great Mosque and explore the Islamic food markets. Complete the day with an evening performance of Tang Dynasty dancing.
End your stay in Xian with a visit to the Little Wild Goose Pagoda before flying to Wuhan. Transfer by coach (approx six hours) to board our Yangtze River Cruise vessel for the next four nights. Marvel at the magnificent Three Gorges Dam before cruising through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. We enjoy various shore excursions and visit the captivating temples and statues of the Ghost City in Fengdu along the way. We will also travel up the Shennong Stream in a pea-pod boat or explore the equally impressive Lesser Three Gorges.
Disembark your cruise vessel and transfer to Chengdu. Take a half-day city tour and enjoy a meal of Sichuan cuisine. The next day, visit the famous Panda Reserve to see these adorable animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat. We then travel to Leshan to see the world’s largest stone-carved Buddha. The carving began in 713AD and was completed in 803AD.
Fly to the beautiful city of Guilin for an overnight stay. On arrival we visit Mt Diecai for spectacular views of the karst landscape.
Relax on a cruise along the spectacular Li River and enjoy breathtaking views of this unique landscape as we travel to the charming town of Yangshuo, set in the lush green paddies of Southern China. Enjoy a walk along the cobblestone streets in the evening and soak in the atmosphere of this picturesque and enchanting town.
Visit the colourful local markets before returning to Guilin for a visit to the beautiful Reed Flute Caves and its stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Stay overnight in Guilin.
Fly to cosmopolitan Shanghai, also known as the ‘Paris of the East’ and transfer by coach to the charming garden city of Suzhou, famous for its exquisite gardens and traditional silk markets. Stay overnight and visit a local silk mill, still in operation today, enjoy a short cruise on the ancient Grand Canal and explore the classical oriental gardens before travelling back to Shanghai.
See the superb antiquities and fine arts of the Shanghai Museum, wander around People’s Square and enjoy traditional Shanghai cuisine tonight. Also visit the beautiful Yu Gardens, fascinating Old Town with it’s colourful collection of shops and restaurants and the famous Bund. The following day visit the Pudong area and explore the unique 1920’s style shikumen buildings in Xintiandi area. We end our stay in Shanghai with a stunning Huangpu River Cruise.
Fly back to the UK, arriving home the same day filled with many happy memories.
