Fly to Beijing where our Tour Captain greets us. The next day, stroll through famous Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure filled Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China. Also enjoy a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutong areas before visiting the unique Temple of Heaven followed by a welcome dinner of Peking Duck. The next day, enjoy a walk on the Great Wall, followed by a visit to the exquisite Summer Palace and a Chinese Acrobatic Show.
Fly to the former imperial capital of Xian. On arrival, we visit the priceless relics at the Shaanxi Museum before enjoying a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal in the evening. The next day, visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century – the life-size Terracotta Warriors, followed by the ancient City Wall, one of the best preserved in all of China. Stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter to visit the Great Mosque and explore the Islamic food markets. Complete the day with an evening performance of Tang Dynasty dancing.
Fly to Wuhan and transfer by coach (approx six hours) to board our Yangtze River Cruise vessel for the next four nights.
Tour the Three Gorges Dam before cruising through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. We will visit the Ghost City of Fengdu and explore the Lesser Three Gorges or Shennong stream along the way.
Disembark from our cruise ship this morning to visit the Panda House at Chongqing Zoo, home to some of the most adorable animals in China, before flying on to the beautiful city of Guilin for an overnight stay.
Relax on a spectacular Li River Cruise past picturesque villages and admire the stunning limestone columns that tower above the river creating magical landscapes. The small town of Yangshuo where we stay for the night is set in the lush green rice paddies of Southern China.
Visit the colourful local markets before returning to Guilin, where we will explore the stunning Reed Flute Caves.
Fly to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai, also known as the Paris of the East. Here we visit the superb antiquities and fine arts of the Shanghai Museum and wander around the People’s Square. The next day we further explore the city with visits to the Yu Gardens, the Old Town and the famous Bund. We also visit the Pudong area and explore Xintiandi, with its unique 1920’s style shikumen buildings. We complete our stay in Shanghai with an evening cruise on the panoramic Huangpu River.
Fly back to the UK, arriving home later the same day filled with many happy memories.
