Fly to Beijing where we will be met by our Tour Captain and enjoy a welcome dinner of the local delicacy, Peking Duck. The next day, walk on the Great Wall and visit the Temple of Heaven. In the evening there will be a Chinese Acrobatic Show.
Explore Chengde, the former imperial holiday resort of the Qing Dynasty and visit the imperial mountain villas and temples built for Tibetan warlords. Stay overnight and return to Beijing the next day.
Explore the Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved collection of ancient buildings in China, followed by a stroll through Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square past Chairman Mao’sMausoleum. Also visit the exquisite Summer Palace before boarding the overnight sleeper train to Xian.
Visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and enjoy sumptuous Shui Jiao cuisine. Next morning, visit one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century – the Terracotta Warriors, followed by a visit to the ancient City Wall and end the day with a Tang Dynasty show. Also visit the Shaanxi Museum and stroll through lively Muslim Quarter to the Great Mosque before boarding the overnight sleeper train to Wuhan.
On arrival in Wuhan visit the Yellow Crane Tower and East Lake before transferring by coach (approx six hours) to your Yangtze River cruise vessel for the next four nights.
Tour the Three Gorges Dam before sailing upstream through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and enjoy various shore excursions and side trips to Shennong Stream in a pea-pod boat or the equally impressive Lesser Three Gorges.
Disembark the cruise vessel and drive to Chengdu for two nights.The capital of Sichuan province is renowned for its natural beauty and cuisine.Visit the Panda Reserve, as well as lush slopes of Mt Qincheng, the Dujiangyan irrigation project and take the opportunity to explore the colourful street markets. Enjoy traditional Sichuan cuisine in the evening before boarding the overnight sleeper train to Kunming.
Enjoy striking views from the train before our arrival at the City of Eternal Spring. Here, explore the Bird and Flower Market before sampling the famous Across the Bridge Noodles for dinner. Enjoy a full day tour to the amazing Stone Forest where massive limestone columns create surreal shapes and images.
Fly to the Living Museum city of Lijiang and wander through the quaint, cobbled streets of the Old Quarter. Next day, visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain soaring 18,000 ft to the sky and tour the Baisha Frescoes. In the evening see the Naxi Ancient Music Show.
Drive to Zhongdian and see the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge en-route. Zhongdian, often called Shangri-La thrives with Tibetan Culture. Visit the Baishui Terrace, where sparkling water tumbles over layers of limestone pools, Napa Hai Lake and the Songshanlin Monastery built by an historical Dalai Lama.
Drive to Dali and explore Xizhou Village before moving on to Zhoucheng Village to witness Bai women demonstrate tie-dying techniques. In Dali, explore the Ancient Quarter while the next morning visit the Three Pagodas and cruise beautiful Erhai Lake. In the evening, stroll down Foreigner’s Street and soak in the lively atmosphere!
Return to Kunming, where the following morning is at leisure. Fly back to the UK, arriving home the following day filled with many happy memories.
